Tomorrow, April 14th, we will observe Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week.
We remember those in the streets of Jerusalem, as they waved palm branches and shouted “Hosanna, Hosanna” with Jesus’ triumphant entry into the city. Even his disciples did not fully realize what would unfold later in the week and Jesus had told them three times what to expect.
“We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.” Luke 18:31-33
Did they understand completely the horror they were to witness? It would have been difficult to imagine, especially as Jesus entered the city with the crowd shouting “Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” How quickly their cries would change to “Crucify him!”
Palm Sunday leads to Good Friday and the crucifixion, but we celebrate that it leads to the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. The resurrection of our Lord was necessary to complete the mystery of our salvation and redemption.
All are invited to join us for a spirit-filled worship tomorrow at 11:00am, as we come together to celebrate Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week.
