Rev. Guy Hunt, Jr. joined LPC in August 2003, as a Stated Supply Pastor. He had been serving in the Presbyterian Parish of Southwest Virginia.
Guy had married his high school sweetheart, Sarah Miller in 1954 and joined the US Air Force, where he played trombone and sang with the Singing Sergeants 1954-1960. He attended Davidson College and King College before attending seminary at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.
He and Sarah moved into the manse and quickly became a part of the community. They always enjoyed the Great Expectations Pre School housed at the church, which was behind the manse. Sarah often came up to the playground to visit when the children were outside. Guy would always make sure that parents knew their children were welcome to stay in the sanctuary during worship service. He said hearing the voices and sounds of children during church was music to his ears. When he came to LPC for our 50th Anniversary homecoming celebration, he appropriately led the children’s story time.
Guy was a strong speaker and choir member, as his voice resonated within the sanctuary. While at LPC, he served as Treasurer of the Russell County Ministerial Association. He served LPC as the Stated Supply Pastor until his resignation in August 2010. Guy and Sarah remained in Lebanon for a while, and he assisted with worship services at Cedar Point Baptist Church before moving to Danbury, NC.
Guy graduated into his new heavenly life in 2013. He had pastored for over 50 years in North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Florida. Sarah continues to live in Danbury, near her children and grandchildren.
