When Jesus came to the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, “Whom do men say that I, the Son of man, am?” They said, “Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” Then, he made the question more personal, “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:13-16).
When Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God,” he uttered the words that became the foundation of the worldwide Christian movement. That, in one short sentence, is what Christians believe about Jesus. We confess one revolutionary truth: Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of the living God.
