Jesus said, “But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!” in Luke 12:50. This “baptism” refers metaphorically to his impending suffering, death, and crucifixion. The baptism Jesus undergoes is his passion and death, a baptism of suffering that he must endure to complete his mission and save humanity. He knew there would be division.
Baptism is the sign that believers have entered that new life. They are professing that they have joined Jesus, that they are one with Jesus Christ. There are others who don’t believe this. So, inevitably, there is division, the believer and the unbeliever.
Join us on Sunday, August 17th, at 11:00 am as Rev. Thomas Quickel leads our worship service with his message, “Jesus said, ‘I have a baptism…”
