LPC Church Historian – Frances Houchins

We have enjoyed sharing our church history.  The majority of this information was documented in our Lebanon Presbyterian Church history books by Frances Houchins.  Mrs. Houchins, along with her husband Luther Houchins, were Founders and Charter Members of LPC.  Described as a marvelously strong and faithful disciple, she was the oldest living member of the church when she left her earthly home and entered the kingdom of heaven in February 2017.

Mrs. Houchins was a native of Lewisburg, West Virginia and graduated from Lewisburg High School. She had lived in Lebanon since 1957, with the move as many other families came to Lebanon with the Appalachia Power Company.  For many years, she operated a preschool at the Lebanon Presbyterian Church and shaped the lives of countless young people in our community.  She was our church historian for forty-three years, as long as her health permitted.  She taught Sunday school for twenty-four years.  Mrs. Houchins was an honorary lifetime member of the Lebanon Women’s Club and was awarded the Russell County Woman of the Year in 1964 and Outstanding Citizen of the Southwest Virginia Area presented by Tazewell County. She was also very active in the Lebanon Cub Scouts as a Den Mother.   With all her accomplishments, Mrs. Houchins was most proud of her son Luke, his wife Paige and granddaughter Rachel.
