The Danger of Almost

Join us on Sunday at LPC at 11am as Tracy McGlothlin leads our worship service with her message, “The Danger of Almost.”

How close can we come to following Jesus and still miss what truly matters?

In Joshua 24:14–15, Joshua challenges the people of Israel to make a choice. They could no longer stand between two ways of living. They had to decide whom they would serve.

Joshua understood that almost making a decision wasn’t enough. Almost turning away from other gods, almost surrendering, and almost choosing to serve the Lord still left the people standing at a crossroads. The danger of almost is believing that being close to making the right decision is the same as actually making it. Joshua called for a wholehearted commitment, not a life spent standing on the edge of obedience. His declaration still speaks to us today: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

In Matthew 7:21–23, Jesus gives a sobering warning. Not everyone who calls Him “Lord” truly belongs to Him. It’s possible to know the right words, appear religious, and even do things in His name while missing the most important thing: a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.

The danger of almost is that we can almost look like a Christian, almost sound like a Christian, and almost live like a Christian, yet still miss the heart of what it means to truly follow Christ.

Jesus isn’t calling us to simply go through the motions of Christianity. He’s calling us to truly know Him, trust Him, and follow Him. Are we just saying we belong to Jesus, or are we living as we belong to Him?

All are welcome here to share the message that will challenge us to examine our hearts, consider our choices, and recognize the importance of a faith that goes beyond words.

Because when it comes to following Jesus, ALMOST is not enough!
